Administration supports DJJS’ spiritual congregation

On the second day of violent brawl, Ludhiana has witnessed clashes between the extremist groups and the police authorities of the largest city of Punjab. The extremist groups including Damdami Taksaal and Takht Khalsa have got out onto the roads with bare swords protesting against the two-day spiritual event of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan. The main reason behind the protest as quoted by the protestors is, “DJJS is an anti-Sikh organisation. Their literature and their discourses do not respect the Sikh Gurus. We would not allow them to congregate and organize any of their events here.”

On the other hand, the police administration is not in the favor of stopping the event being held in Ludhiana by DJJS under the guidance of its spiritual master Ashutosh Maharaj Ji. “We do not want to comment on this issue. We are doing our best to control the situation,” said Shamsher Singh, Deputy Commissioner of police Ludhiana city. In the meanwhile, the spiritual discourse event of DJJS held peacefully and the assembled followers of the organisation left for their homes safely. “We organised today’s event in accordance to the law and administration norms of the state and the city with the full support of police and the administration,” said Swami Vishalanand, spokes person of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan.

Responding to the provocative allegations by the extremists’, Swami Ji said, “We never say anything neither against the Sikh community nor against their Guru Sahibans and the Shri Guru Granth Sahib. We have more than 20-21 lakh learned Sikh followers. Had we been incorrect in our interpretations or preaching, then why do all these people support us so firmly?”

The protestors hung the city in despair as they damaged transport buses and threw stones on roads. There was open-air firing by the police personnel, earlier in the day. Taking a valid cognizance of present tensed situations, DJJS has appealed to all the people to maintain peace and have cancelled tomorrow’s spiritual event, the second day of the two-day event.

Following the violent protests by the factory workers yesterday, curfew was imposed in five areas of the city. And, today, the number of areas under curfew has gone up to nine, as police undertook lathicharge over the protestors. Amid the violent clashes between the police and the extremists groups, there are reports of death of one of the protestors, though police said no to further confirmations.
